The Simple Manifesto #9 – Purge your stuff
This is part of our series on The Simple Living Manifesto. We invite you to join us on the journey.
The ninth idea in the manifesto is:
Purge your stuff. If you can devote a weekend to purging the stuff you don’t want, it feels seriously terrific. Get boxes and trash bags for the stuff you want to donate or toss. Here’s my guide on decluttering. Here’s a post on starting small.
I purged a couple different areas in my home recently. There are several more to go!
Right after I read Leo’s book, I purged my bookshelf, my closet and my “catch-all” drawer.
I believe in total, I got rid of 40+ books, two bags of clothes and at least half a bag of trash from my drawer.
The key to my success, “Have I read/used/worn this in the past three months?”
If not, it was likely given away (or taken to Half Price Books).
I think the next “room” on my purge list will be the garage. We tend to purge it every six months or so and its getting close to that time.
I also need to purge my cubicle again sometime soon as well.
What rooms/areas in your home have you purged? Do you have any pointers?
